چکیده

Several years ago considerable interest was aroused by the discovery by van Veen and Hyman (1) of a new naturally occurring sulfur-containing amino acid which they had isolated from the djenkol bean (Pithecolobium lobatum) and named djenkolic acid. They showed that it was probably the cysteine thioacetal of formaldehyde. This structure was confirmed by du Vigneaud and Patterson (2) who synthesized the I-cysteine thioacetal of formaldehyde by the condensation of methylene chloride with 2 moles of I-cysteine in liquid ammonia and showed their synthetic compound to be identical with the naturally occurring djenkolic acid. Van Veen and Hyman suggested that the natural synthesis of djenkolic acid in the plant might occur by a condensation of formaldehyde and cysteine. Such thioacetals were apparently not formed by condensation of these compounds under conditions studied at that time or later by various workers (3-G). Whenever aldehydes or ketones w&e caused to react with cysteine, the product was either an addition compound (I) or a thiazolidinecarboxylic acid (II).

Biosynthesis of ergothioneine from endogenous hercynine in Mycobacterium smegmatis.

Ergothioneine was synthesized and accumulated in growing cultures of Mycobacterium smegmatis when the medium was adequately supplied with sulfur. In a low sulfur medium, the accumulation was sharply limited although growth of the organism was apparently normal. Synthesis of hercynine, the precursor of ergothioneine, was unaffected by low sulfur levels and was markedly increased by addition of l...

Structural modeling of djenkolic acid with sulfur replaced by selenium and tellurium.

The comparative structural modeling of djenkolic acid and its derivatives containing selenium and tellurium in chalcogen sites (Ch=Se, Te) has provided detailed information about the bond lengths and bond angles, filling the gap in what we know about the structural characteristics of these aminoacids. The investigation using the molecular mechanics technique with good approximation confirmed th...

Djenkolism: case report and literature review

Djenkolism is an uncommon but important cause of acute kidney injury. It sporadically occurs after an ingestion of the djenkol bean (Archidendron pauciflorum), which is native to Southeast Asia. The clinical features defining djenkolism include: spasmodic suprapubic and/or flank pain; urinary obstruction; and acute kidney injury. The precise pathogenesis of acute kidney injury following djenkol...

One Pot Synthesis of Polyhydroquinolines Catalyzed by Sulfonic Acid Functionalized SBA-15 as a New Nanoporous Acid Catalyst under Solvent Free Conditions

Sulfonic acid functionalized SBA-15 (SBA-Pr-SO3H) as a new nanoporous acid catalyst was used in the one-pot synthesis of polyhydroquinolines derivatives via the Hantzsch four component condensation reaction of aldehydes, b-ketoesters, dimedone and ammonium acetate under solvent free conditions with short reaction time in excellent yields. SBA-P...

Introduction of sulfonated bamboo (bamboo-SO3H) as a new catalyst for the facile synthesis of bis(indolyl)methanes

Bamboo is one of the important biopolymers which is used in chemistry. In this work, for the first time, a solid acid catalyst from bamboo was prepared from the reaction of sawdust bamboo and chlorosulfonic acid. Relevant properties of catalyst were investigated by FT-IR, XRD, SEM and TGA. The sulfonated bamboo (bamboo-SO3H) with several acid functional groups was utilized as highly ...
